North Texas SHRM Awarded EXCEL Platinum Award

For Elevating Human Resources, Improving Workplaces

Denton, Texas, May 29, 2024 — SHRM recently awarded North Texas Society of Human Resources Managers (NTXSHRM) its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the Chapter’s accomplishments in 2023.

The EXCEL award is given to state councils and chapters to recognize major accomplishments, strategic activities, and tactical initiatives that elevate the profession of human resources.

“SHRM’s impact on the world of work is due to the dedication and efforts of our chapters and state councils like North Texas SHRM. “The PLATINUM EXCEL Award is not only a celebration of the great work done by North Texas SHRM—it’s also recognition of their focus and determination to cause the effect to make great workplaces”, said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president, and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Their HR leadership is exemplary.”

The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. North Texas SHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on its website, and information to share with its members about the significance of this award.

Networking with a Purpose - We had sponsored events at different locations with a facilitator who taught different skills such networking, building relationships, and communication. Once the skills were taught, the attendees could then practice those skills for the remainder of the event.

Community Relations - To be more visible in the community. We partnered with United Way to host a job search skills workshop for those seeking employment.

HR Industrial Roundtable - The goal was to share best practices for HR professionals working in the manufacturing and warehousing sector. We partnered with the Denton Chamber of Commerce and the Denton Economic Development Partnership to broaden our reach throughout the community.

Emerging Professionals Program - Program is a venue available for HR Professionals to learn, enhance, or freshen up your HR competencies through peer-to-peer coaching, workshops, seminars, and virtual meetings. We created a mentor and mentee registration form in which pair up those who completed the forms. In the form we gather information on the mentor and mentee background, experience and resources that the mentor may have. For the mentees, we asked what goals they would like to accomplish or skill they would like to develop as an HR Professional. We also followed with the mentors and mentees regarding the progress of their interactions with one another.
